Chen Quanxun stated that it is necessary to increase the research and development of aerospace materials, transportation equipment materials, new energy materials, information materials, environmental and energy-saving materials, and attach importance to cutting-edge new technologies such as nano, superconductivity, and intelligence, guided by the needs of major national projects. Other key tasks include: strengthening the dominant position of the enterprise, further improving the integration of production, teaching and research; strengthening the transformation and promotion of scientific and technological achievements, promoting the optimization and upgrading of the overall technology and equipment of the industry; giving full play to the role of scientific research institutes and universities, and cultivating innovative scientific and technological talents .
According to data from the association, there are currently about 600 R&D institutions in the non-ferrous industry across the country, 43 nationally recognized enterprise technology centers, and about 55,000 R&D personnel. In 2010, large and medium-sized industrial enterprises in the industry invested 13.35 billion yuan in R&D, developed 2,640 new products, and the output value of new products was 148 billion yuan.
In recent years, the relevant state departments have successively built 18 national key laboratories and national engineering laboratories, 20 national engineering research centers, and more than 20 post-doctoral research workstations relying on non-ferrous industry units.
Chen Quanxun said frankly that there is still a lot of gap between the current level of scientific and technological development of the non-ferrous industry and the requirements of building a strong non-ferrous metal country: the original innovation ability is insufficient; the key core technology is still controlled by others; the technical standard research is weak; the outstanding scientific research talents are lacking; the scientific research investment is insufficient. There are still some shortcomings in the scientific research system and mechanism.
